Steel Fabrication Sheffield — Bespoke Industrial Steelwork

Steel fabrication Sheffield specialists since 1944. Starweld Engineering is one of the UK’s longest-established industrial steel fabricators, with 80 years’ experience producing high-quality steel fabrications from our Sheffield workshop. We’re ISO 9001 certified through our parent company Heaps, Arnold & Heaps Ltd (manufacturing heritage going back to 1770), and our coded welders work to BS EN 1090 standards for structural steelwork.

Our Sheffield site offers modern rolling, forming, bending, cutting and welding technologies — allowing us to take a product from initial design through to finished, installed fabrication. Our engineers work in a range of materials including mild steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminium. All products are CE marked where relevant, and we supply full testing, traceability, and documentation packs with every job.

Professional Welding Services in Sheffield

Our coded welders carry out MIG, TIG, and MMA (arc) welding to the highest industry standards, qualified to the requirements of BS EN ISO 9606-1. We provide both workshop welding at our Sheffield site and on-site welding across Yorkshire for new builds, repairs, reinforcements, and modifications.

Welding capabilities include:

  • MIG, TIG and Stick (MMA) welding processes
  • Mobile / on-site welding across Sheffield & Yorkshire (industrial work only — no vehicle welding)
  • Structural and mechanical welding to BS EN 1090
  • Repair and maintenance welding, including cast iron crack repair and aluminium

Steel Fabrication FAQ

What is BS EN 1090 and why does it matter?

BS EN 1090 is the European standard governing the fabrication and assembly of structural steel and aluminium components used in construction. For structural steelwork in the UK, compliance is a legal requirement under the Construction Products Regulation. It sets out requirements for welder qualifications, welding procedures, factory production control, and material traceability. Working to BS EN 1090 means your steelwork is properly documented and verified — important for any safety-critical structural application.

Do you supply documentation and material certificates?

Yes — every job leaves our Sheffield workshop with a documentation pack including material certificates (mill certs), welding records (WPS/WPQR where applicable), and inspection records. For structural projects requiring CE or UKCA marking, we supply the full conformity assessment paperwork.

Can you handle one-off fabrications as well as production runs?

Yes — we routinely produce both. Our workshop is set up to handle bespoke single fabrications (e.g. a custom platform, a one-off pressure vessel, a heritage railing) alongside repeat production runs of identical components. We're equally happy with either — the only difference is scheduling.

Do you offer design as well as fabrication?

Yes. If you have a problem to solve rather than a finished drawing, our engineers can work with you from concept through CAD design and prototyping to finished, installed fabrication. See our CAD design and 3D printing service for more on the design side.

Do you install on site?

Yes — for steel fabrication projects across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Chesterfield and the wider Yorkshire region, we offer on-site installation, fitting and welding via our mobile welding service. For larger national projects, on-site work can be arranged by agreement.

What materials do you fabricate in?

We fabricate in mild steel, structural steel grades (S275, S355), stainless steel (304, 316 and others), aluminium across all common grades, and cast iron. For dissimilar metal joins — for example steel-to-cast-iron or steel-to-aluminium — our coded welders use the appropriate process to maintain weld integrity.

Where are you based and what areas do you cover?

We're based at Harleston Street, Sheffield, S4 7QB, and serve clients across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Chesterfield and the wider Yorkshire region. For UK-wide projects we offer collection, delivery, and on-site installation by agreement.
